SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 37
(By Senators Snyder, Unger, Ross, Helmick, Fanning, Edgell,
Kessler, Dittmar, Anderson, Minard, Boley, Plymale, Jackson,
Bailey, Walker, Wooton, Chafin, Sharpe, Ball, Love, Hunter,
Mitchell, Oliverio, McKenzie, McCabe, Redd, Deem, Minear, Sprouse
and Tomblin, Mr. President)
Congratulating Josh Delawder, a senior at Paw Paw High School, on
his achievement in setting a statewide high school basketball
record by scoring the most points in a single season.

Whereas, In 1958, a statewide record was set in high school
basketball when Paul Popavich compiled 2,660 points during a single
season; and

Whereas, In February 2000, only twenty-five points were needed
to break the 42-year old statewide record when Josh Delawder, a
senior at Paw Paw High School, Morgan County, scored thirty-one
points in the Pirates' home games. With six points to spare, the
long-standing record was not only broken but increased to 2,666
points; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby congratulates Josh Delawder, a senior
at Paw Paw High School, Morgan County, for his outstanding athletic
ability in basketball and on becoming the state's newest record holder after breaking a 42-year record by scoring 2,666 points in
a single season; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to Josh Delawder, basketball coach Roger
Ross and the principal of Paw Paw High School.
